Nantong memory controller developer achieves new breakthrough

Nantong-based Jiangsu Huacun Electronic Technology has made another breakthrough in promoting development of 5G in China by further expanding the storage capacity essential to technological advancement.
The high-tech company (brand name MMY) launched a memory control chip for the fifth generation PCIe SSD in November 2019, only two years after its establishment. The product became the first domestic smart memory chip architecture for the fifth generation PCle SSD with 100 percent independent intellectual property rights. Its speed is eight to 12 times faster than traditional devices, according to Huacun's senior engineer Pierre.
The chip is expected to be introduced into Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp (TSMC), the world's top contract chip maker, for mass production of 1x nanometer processors by the end of this year.
The achievement stems from sustainable massive investment in research and development. During its early development stage Huacun received municipal and district-level industrial funds and great support from the Nantong National High-tech Industrial Development Zone where the company is located.
The company's R&D team was consequently able to keep growing to its current level of nearly 100 members. They concentrate on the development of the memory controllers that occupy one-third of the entire integrated circuit market but can hardly be produced by domestic companies.
In November 2018, Huacun released the first 40-nanometer mobile memory control chip, successfully breaking the longtime foreign monopoly in the field. The product realized mass production last year and has achieved an output value of nearly 10 million yuan ($1.53 million).
The company has completed the appropriate intellectual property management system certification. To date, the R&D team has accumulated a total of 253 patents and Patent Cooperation Treaties (PCTs).
Song Yuancen, deputy general manager of Huacun, said the company will continue its efforts to meet new requirements of information processing, transmission and adaptability in the course of industrial upgrading of next-generation information technology.
