Agricultural industry develops prosperously in Gangzha
A large area of concentrated fertile farmland has been constructed in Gangzha district, Nantong, Jiangsu province over the past several years. The output of wheat in the district is expected to increase this year, according to the district's bureau of agricultural and water affairs.
The total cultivated area was 15,700 mu (1,047 hectares) in 2019, with the newly cultivated farmland covering 13,700 mu, accounting for 87.3 percent of the total. An agricultural industrial chain has been built in the district and a stable supply of food is now guaranteed.
Large-scale production is carried out by major local agricultural companies through the use of ever-improving technologies. Post-processing of agricultural products can also be done in the district, including drying, sorting, transporting, and selling.
"We will continue to develop the agricultural industrial chain and integrate the advantages of both urban and rural areas," said an official at the district's bureau of agricultural and water affairs.
The district has also offered targeted support to local promising agricultural enterprises and promoted large-scale cultivation, which increases both output and quality, reduces pollution and facilitates mechanization.
Wang Jun, manager at a local cooperative, said that yield per mu of wheat had been around 300 kilograms in the past but reached 450 kg last year after adopting high-quality seeds and applying formulated fertilization.
