Community worker helps foreigners who can't speak Chinese
A Japanese resident in Gangzha district, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province recently had his information registered with the help of Gu Xiaomin, a local community worker who can speak fluent Japanese.
According to the Japanese resident, he was worried at first, as he could not register his information due to the language barrier. Luckily, Gu was on hand to help.
The Japanese resident said he expected to leave his home every day for work and daily needs. But due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, local community authorities talked with him. He was asked to go out every three days and a temporary pass was given to his assistant, allowing him to handle urgent affairs when needed.
Gu also offered her phone number to the resident and said he can call her at any time if he needs anything.
Upon learning that there was another Japanese resident facing a similar situation in another community, Gu contacted workers in the community and helped the resident register his information via phone.
"I'm happy that my Japanese abilities can help local residents during the virus outbreak," said Gu.
