China's men's 4x100m freestyle relay team delivered a record-breaking performance at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Sept 24, with Nantong native Zhao Jiayue swimming the leadoff leg as the quartet stormed to gold in 3:10.60.

The Chinese team of Zhao, Wang Haoyu, Zhang Zhanshuo and Pan Zhanle edged out Japan in a tightly contested final, breaking both the Asian and Games records.

The victory gave Zhao his second gold of the Games. He had earlier contributed to China's gold in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay by swimming in the preliminary heats.

The event also marked Nantong's fourth gold medal at the Asian Games.

Born in 2006 in Nantong, Zhao joined the Nantong Children's Amateur Sports School swimming team in 2013. He moved to the Jiangsu Youth Amateur Sports School in 2020 and entered the Jiangsu Sports Team in 2023, specializing in freestyle sprint events.
