The Malta-flagged vessel Elefsis, loaded with pure terephthalic acid (PTA) products manufactured in the Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone in Rudong, Jiangsu province, set sail from Yangkou Port on Feb 28 to Hazira Port in India, marking a milestone in the port's break bulk cargo export business.

It symbolizes the port's ambitious start to 2026, as it continues to enhance its capabilities for more robust growth amid ongoing port construction efforts.

At the port's Jinniu Terminal, three 50,000-metric-ton berths have passed inspection and are ready to begin operating, providing vital sea transport services for local industries. Meanwhile, the Jinniu Terminal's access channel and breakwater projects are set to commence this year, further enhancing maritime logistics. In the Xitai Yangsha Terminal area, construction of the LNG terminal is advancing rapidly.

The port has also achieved a historic leap in its openness, with several berths approved for international vessel docking, marking a significant step towards becoming a modern comprehensive port.

The successful export via Elefsis not only set a new record for the port but also demonstrated the efficiency of the "dock-to-ship" model, reducing transportation costs by nearly 20 percent for enterprises. This success fuels the port's logistics and trade capabilities, with significant growth in throughput and expanded port-related services.

The port is also committed to smart and green transformation, integrating intelligent systems and sustainable practices across its facilities. With these advancements, the port is poised to achieve its goal of becoming an industrial port with an output value exceeding 100 billion yuan ($14.5 billion), driving forward with a focus on openness, services and green, intelligent development.
