The Maltese ship Elefsis loaded pure terephthalic acid (PTA) products from a company in the Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone, Rudong, Jiangsu province, set sail from Yangkou Port and headed toward Hazira, India, on Feb 28.

The port has achieved the first export of bulk cargo for the first time.

The PTA exported this time is a key raw material for the manufacture of polyester fibers, bottle sheets, and films, which are widely used in chemical fibers, light industry, and electronics.

The PTA export volume of companies settled in the zone exceeded 100,000 metric tons in 2025.

"This PTA export this time is not only a single enterprise's foreign trade shipment but also marks a dual breakthrough in the circulation of logistics within the zone and in a new channel for foreign trade," said Chen Wangnan, an official from the zone.

Yangkou Port, a national first-class open port in China, has built three terminals and eight berths for liquefied natural gas, liquefied goods, and general bulk cargo. In 2025, the port's import and export freight volume exceeded 12 million tons.
