Chongchuan sees boom in consumption during Spring Festival
Chongchuan district in Nantong, Jiangsu province witnessed a surge in consumer enthusiasm during the Spring Festival holiday.
The district's 29 key commercial enterprises achieved a total sales revenue of 502 million yuan ($69.74 million) from Feb 10 to 17, a 12-percent year-on-year increase.
Wenfeng World, a commercial complex in the district, led the charge by offering discounts on apparel, gold jewelry and international beauty products. By promoting special New Year goods and organizing on-site events such as lion and dragon dances as well as various exhibitions, it saw a 21-percent year-on-year increase in sales.
Yaohan Mall, which also offered major discounts, experienced 3.5-percent year-on-year growth in sales during the holiday season.
Beyond retail, the tourism market in Chongchuan also performed strongly. In the first five days of the eight-day Spring Festival holiday, Nantong Forest Safari Park welcomed over 110,000 visitors, a 50-percent increase compared to the same period last year. Nantong Sendi Snow Park received nearly 50,000 visitors, while Nantong Urban Agriculture Park saw a daily average of over 5,000 visitors, both record highs for the park.
The flourishing tourism sector also translated into growth for Chongchuan's local accommodation industry. During the Spring Festival, the total room revenue for seven monitored dining and lodging enterprises reached 3.846 million yuan, a 19.2-percent year-on-year increase.
