Yangkou village sees big change in past decade

Yangkou village, located in Yangkou town, Rudong, a county-level city in East China's Jiangsu province, has experienced rapid development over the past decade.

The village has been working to improve the living environment of villagers since 2013. An area of 250,000 square meters has been used to establish a residential community in the village.

To date, 1,621 households of villagers have moved from rural areas to the residential community.

In addition, the community has been equipped with 308 street lamps. A basketball court, a football court, and a tennis court have also been built.

The natural environment in the village has also been improved over the past years. Yangkou has invested about 2.8 million yuan ($389,409) into river management, including the improvement of water-quality and ecological greening.

The village has made strides in economic development as well. The annual income of the village has now exceeded seven million yuan and is expected to increase year by year.

To date, a total of more than 10,000-mu (66.67 hectares) farmland in the village has been transferred from villagers. As a result, villagers are able to engage in additional work and increase their incomes.
