Rudong, a county-level city in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, has made sustained efforts to improve people's livelihoods in the past decade.

Yangkou village, which raked in 7 million yuan ($980,965) in operating revenue in 2021, is such a beneficiary.

Residents aged over 60 in the village have been provided with a monthly allowance and accident insurance, according to Wang Bin, Party secretary of Yangkou village.

In 2021, Yangkou offered a total allowance of 2.997 million yuan to seniors aged 60 and over in the village.

Gaoqian village in Gaodian town is also benefiting from the campaign. By promoting industrial development, the village has shed poverty and become a wealthy village with an annual income of over 2 million yuan.

The village made the list of national civilized cities due to its achievements made in social development.

Hongqiao village in Juegang sub-district achieved prosperity by constructing a 200-mu (13.33 hectares) orchard that allows visitors to pick fruits by themeselves. The employment opportunities provided by the orchard have also increased villagers’ incomes.

Rudong is also pooling efforts to improve elderly care services. To date, there are more than 300 nurses in Rudong that provide door-to-door service, benefiting 5,300 people with limited mobility.
