After a 10-day ocean voyage, the Saudi Arabian vessel Rawan loaded with 44,000 metric tons of xylene slowly docked at the G5 berth of the Sunshine Island Liquid Chemical Terminal in the waters of Yangkou Port on Jan 28.

This is the largest foreign trade vessel to unload cargo at the G5 berth since the berth was officially opened to the public by the provincial government at the end of last year.

The ship is 183 meters long and 35 m wide. The paraxylene raw materials it transported this time are the core consumables produced by key enterprises in the Lingang Industrial Zone of the Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone, Rudong.

The liquid chemical terminal is positioned to serve the new material industry cluster in Rudong and surrounding areas, with a focus on undertaking the loading, unloading, warehousing, and transit business of liquid chemicals such as acrylonitrile, ethylene glycol, and paraxylene.

The design scale of berths G1, G2, and G3 includes two 5,000-ton berths and one 10,000-ton berth, while G4 and G5 are both 50,000-ton liquid bulk cargo berths.

At present, all five berths have been put into use, and a total of 32 ships have docked this year, with a throughput of 341,990 tons.
