Collaborative efforts accelerate progress on Koksan project
In just 10 and a half months, the Koksan Group Green Polyester New Material Project, located in the Lin-gang Industrial Zone of Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone, Rudong, Jiangsu province, went from a barren land to a visible structure, showcasing rapid speed in the construction of similar projects.
The project is the first large-scale green polyester new material production base funded and built by Turkiye-based Koksan Group in China.
With a total investment of $710 million, the project will be completed in five phases. The first and second phases will be launched first, while the third, fourth, and fifth phases are set to be completed by 2029. After it becomes fully operational, the project will be able to produce 2.2 million tons of green polyester new materials annually.

The collaborative efforts behind the project have made this rapid speed possible.
"On Feb 12 last year, we obtained the construction permit for the pile foundation project. The pile foundation project entered the site at least two months in advance and was carried out in parallel with the subsequent detailed design process, reducing the project construction period," said Zhang Qiang, executive deputy general manager of Koksan (Nantong) New Materials.
He added that the project spans various aspects, and without the full support of the local government, such rapid progress would not have been possible.
In addition, the project team has leveraged its experience in large-scale industrial construction by optimizing the organization plan, introducing modular construction technology, and implementing shift operations, allowing multiple key stages that were originally sequential to be accelerated.
The Koksan project primarily aims to address the production capacity shortfall of Koksan Group in Turkiye. Jiangsu Jiatong Energy, which is located just across the street from the new Koksan plant, is now an important pure terephthalic acid raw material supplier for the company. This stable supply model eliminates the cost of transporting raw materials and reduces the risk of supply interruption caused by logistics fluctuations.
For the Koksan project, construction progress and industry chain collaboration are crucial, with the most critical step being to overcome the unique challenges of the production phase.
For instance, faced with the need for dedicated power lines for the first phase of the project, the local government actively sought support from the local power company, invested in the construction of a 20 kV dedicated line, and simultaneously promoted the construction of lines outside the 110 kV substation.
