A five-day youth exchange program concluded on July 9, bringing students from Nantong, Jiangsu province, to Hong Kong for an immersive experience in local governance, innovation, and education sectors.

The delegation visited Hong Kong's Legislative Council, where they toured the chamber and received a briefing on its functions, Hong Kong's civil service structure, and the Bauhinia honours system

A significant portion of the itinerary focused on science and technology. At the Hong Kong Science Park, the group explored its startup funding schemes and collaborations with universities and research institutes.

They also toured the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where they learned about its history, before heading to City University of Hong Kong for hands-on workshops. There, they built Lego wind turbines and tested small-scale solar panels to familiarize themselves with Hong Kong's roadmap to carbon neutrality.

A highlight of the exchange occurred at Scientia Secondary School. After a presentation on the differences between the respective education systems of Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong students who had previously visited Nantong shared their impressions. They noted the trip had reshaped their views of Chinese mainland cities, revealing a blend of historical heritage and advanced manufacturing.

After their five-day trip, the participants from Nantong said the program broadened their understanding of governance, technology, and sustainability, and that the friendships formed were as valuable as the knowledge gained.
