Industrial development aids economic growth in Tongzhou
Tongzhou district in Nantong, Jiangsu province has experienced steady economic growth this year, with its GDP increasing 6.5 percent year-on-year in the first three quarters.
This strong economic growth is a result of the district's efforts to promote industrial development. In the first nine months of this year, Tongzhou witnessed a year-on-year increase of 10.4 percent in the output value of above-designated-size industries.
To date, the district has developed three major industries, including auto and auto parts, new-generation information and intelligent equipment. Nearly 80 percent of the new projects that started operating in Tongzhou belong to these three industries and about 200 local enterprises above the designated size specialize in these industrial chains.
For example, the output of the new-generation information industry reached 17.1 billion yuan ($2.39 billion) last year, accounting for 13.66 percent of the Tongzhou total.
Additionally, the innovative industrial cluster of electronic components in Tongzhou has been included in the first group of the eight innovative industrial clusters in Jiangsu.
To further promote industrial development, Tongzhou is making efforts to attract projects in these industries.
So far this year, the district has signed contracts for 47 new key projects and started construction on 51 key projects, with each worth over 100 million yuan.
