Rugao celebrates Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival

The sixth Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival fell on Sept 23 this year. Rugao, a county-level city in Nantong, Jiangsu province, held a series of activities to celebrate the festival.
Residents of Zhennan community in Chengbei sub-district celebrated the harvest on this festive day through several activities, such as peeling peanuts and kangaroo jumping.
Residents of Yanhe village and Changgang village in Rucheng sub-district also got together to celebrate the harvest festival through a series of activities related to rural production and life, such as agricultural products exhibitions and sales, cultural performances and sports competitions.
In 2023, Rugao planted 699,900 mu (46,660 hectares) of summer grain, an increase of 600 mu over the previous year. The city's total output reached 247,800 metric tons. A total of 810,200 mu of autumn crops were ripening in the city, an increase of 9,300 mu year-on-year.
By the end of September, the total collective income of villages in the city reached 245 million yuan ($33.54 million), with an average of 738,000 yuan per village. Among them, there were 78 villages earning more than 1 million yuan, accounting for 24 percent of the total.
