Hai'an promotes high-quality development of agriculture industry
Following the recent autumn harvest, Hai'an has been ranked first in the province for 16 consecutive years in terms of the yield of rice and wheat per unit area.
In 2022, the high-standard farmlands rebuilt and established in the county have reached 530,000 mu (35,333 hectares), including 500-mu saving-irrigation farmlands.
Since 2016, Hai'an has established 308,000 mu high-standard farmlands, accounting for 97.8 percent of the total.
The establishment of high-standard farmlands has contributed to the improved quality of farmlands and increased the income of farmers in Hai'an.
For example, the Hongli family farm located in Qutang town harvested 200 mu of high-quality rice fields one month in advance this summer and saw their income increase by 400 yuan ($56.52) per mu.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the county aims to establish 230,000 mu high-standard farmlands and build one demonstration area consisting of more than 100,000 mu of farmlands, said Cao Jianhua, deputy director of Hai'an agricultural and rural affairs bureau.
Apart from the establishment of high-standard farmlands, efforts have also been made to promote mechanization and scale up production in the agricultural industry in Hai'an.
In 2021, the county authorities advanced the building of service centers for agricultural affairs to help solve the technical problems faced by farmers and promote the utilization of agricultural machinery.
To date, Hai'an has established 207 centers for agricultural affairs.
Due to mechanized production, more and more large grain households have emerged in the county.
One of these large grain households in Hai'an is managed by Zhou Xiaobin, who currently owns over 30 sets of agricultural machinery and is running 800-mu farmlands.
At present, Hai'an is home to 520 large grain households. The scale production rate of grain in the county has exceeded 80 percent.
