Miao Feng, professor at Nanjing University and a native of Hai'an, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, published his new breakthroughs in quantum simulation in the journal Nature on Sept 14.

Miao set up the NJU Research Center for Brain-like Intelligence Technology after he graduated from the University of California in 2012.

He and his team took nearly 10 years to develop a brand-new quantum material, which helped him secure the Huang Kun Physics Prize from the Chinese Physical Society.

In 2000, Miao graduated from Hai'an High School. "Studying at Hai'an High School was one of the most important times in my life," said Miao. "I met a lot of responsible teachers and they are really helpful to my growth."

Miao said that it was his rigorous high school studies that ensured his entrance into the Physics Department of NJU, a starting point for his later scientific research.

"During my study in the United States, I paid close attention to the development of China," noted the scientist. "Therefore, it was inevitable that I would return there after I graduated."

In Miao's eyes, the Yangtze River Delta region, an intersection of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Yangtze River Economic Belt, is developing into one of the largest city agglomerations in the world, as well as the most dynamic and innovative region in China with the highest level of opening up and huge potential.

He said that Hai'an has been pursuing development through scientific innovation and will become one of the shining stars of the YRD.

He also expects that his research will contribute to the development of Hai'an.
