With the connection of the No 58 wind turbine's fan impeller and hub on Aug 10, all 75 wind turbines of the Rudong H5# offshore wind power plant have been hoisted, signifying that the main part of the plant on the sea has been finished.

The H5# wind power plant project – located in Rudong county, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province – was invested by the Jiangsu Communications Holding Co Ltd with 5.5 billion yuan ($849 million), and will be combined to the grid with full capacity by the end of September this year.

The project is comprised of an onshore centralized control center – which takes charge of data transmission and equipment monitoring of the offshore wind power plant – and an offshore wind power plant equipped with a 220 kV offshore booster station and 75 4-megawatt wind turbine generators with a total installed capacity of 300 MW.

Since construction on the offshore main section started in December 2019, the project team has faced many difficulties, including the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, complex sea conditions, and limited resources. However, the team has done an effective job pushing the project forward and controlling the virus to ensure the safety of workers.

The plant will be able to generate 940 million kilowatts of electricity annually, save about 290,000 tons of standard coal, and reduce carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide by about 720,000 tons and 313 tons, respectively.
