China's largest offshore wind power plant, with a total installed capacity of 700 megawatts reportedly finished its final phase of construction on June 29.

The plant completed equipping its last turbine at the H3 sub-wind farm for Phase II in waters off Rudong county, administered by the port city of Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province.

A total of more than 12 billion yuan ($1.85 billion) was invested in the two-phase project. Phase I was connected to the power grid and began generating electricity in September 2017, while Phase II is expected to start operating by the end of July.

When the plant is fully operational, its 150 wind turbines are expected to generate annual on-grid power of 1.75 billion kWh, which can meet the electricity demand of 1 million households per year, according to the developer China Huaneng Group Co Ltd.

It is expected to save 550,000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.46 million tons per year, compared with conventional coal-fired thermal power plants with the same generating capacity, the group added.

The H3 sub-wind farm is using a smart platform to realize full life cycle energy management. The developer has proprietary intellectual property right for the core software of the system. Incorporating 46 functions, it can capture wave and wind action, monitor and rank energy efficiency – providing strong support for intelligent operations, maintenance and informed operational decision-making.
