Jiaoxie town in Hai'an recognized as Taobao Town for prosperous e-commerce
The 2020 Jiangsu Digital Village Development Forum and Jiangsu Taobao Village Summit were held in Fengxian county, Xuzhou, East China's Jiangsu province on Dec 29 and 30, 2020.
The latest lists of Taobao Villages and Towns in China were released at the conference. Jiaoxie town was included in the list of 2020 China Taobao Towns, the only one so recognized in Hai'an, a county-level city of Nantong.
There are three accreditation standards for a Taobao Village – its business premises are located in a rural area, with administrative villages as the unit; its annual e-commerce transaction volume reaches 10 million yuan ($1.55 million); and the number of its active online stores reaches 100 or accounts for at least 10 percent of local households.
A Taobao Town is a higher-level rural e-commerce phenomenon developed on the basis of a Taobao Village. According to AliResearch, if a town, township or sub-district has three or more Taobao Villages, it may then be called a Taobao Town.
In recent years, Jiaoxie town has broadened sales channels of local agricultural specialties through the internet and rolled out supporting policies to boost the development of rural e-commerce.
In 2020, the town also invited famous livestreamers to sell its aquatic specialties to the whole country.
Being selected as a Taobao Town will inject new impetus into the further expansion of the e-commerce industry in Jiaoxie town, promoting it as a powerful growth point for social development and rural revitalization.
