Xiezhuang village in Sunzhuang sub-district, Hai'an – a county-level city administered by Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – has created a new method to promote the prohibition of burning and throwing straw in fields that has achieved remarkable results.

In addition to putting up posters, conducting inspections and issuing notifications, Xiezhuang village took the initiative to use an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to carry out publicity and spots situations where people are burning or throwing straw in fields. These actions can be prohibited immediately.

Located at the junction of Hai'an and Rugao cities, Xiezhuang village faces a complicated situation in prohibiting burning and throwing straw.

The problem has been that it was difficult to distinguish whether a fire found by monitoring was in Xiezhuang village or not. Now, the village uses the UAV to patrol the fields, gives full play to its advantages in real time, safety, speed and full coverage, greatly saving manpower and material resources and improving efficiency.

The village has found and stopped straw littering four times since carrying out daily inspections with the UAV.
