Staff at the PetroChina Jiangsu LNG terminal in Yangkou Port – in Rudong county, administered by Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – will remain during the upcoming Spring Festival holiday, according to reports in the local media.
"In a bid to guarantee the stable supply of natural gas in the Yangtze River Delta region, more than 100 employees of our terminal will stick to their posts and stay put during the upcoming Spring Festival holiday," said Zhuang Fang, manager of the production and operation center of facility operator PetroChina Jiangsu Liquefied Natural Gas Co Ltd.
The terminal has already received and unloaded LNG vessels in rapid succession this year. In January, it handled 12 ships alone, tying with the highest level achieved in a single month since its operation.
A vessel from Qatar berthed at the terminal on Feb 4, being the first one in February and the 13th in the current year. To date, the Jiangsu LNG terminal has unloaded more than 1.03 million tons of LNG in 2021, providing strong support for the region's downstream gas supplies.
"The single-day gasification export volume has been at 36 million cubic meters since December and will be kept at that level until the Spring Festival," Zhuang said. "Due to the cold weather, the downstream demand is large. The gas consumption in the YRD region ranks first in China."
In a bid to meet the rising demand, the Jiangsu LNG terminal – which facilitates the winter supplies of East China – unloaded 760,000 tons of LNG in January within a limited operating time, through improved efficiency.
