A group of hydrogen energy companies have settled in the zone and built strong brands. Xeca Turbo is a leading fuel cell air compressors manufacturer with 60 percent market share in China. Jiangsu Horizon New Energy Technologies Co has expanded to markets in South Korea, Japan, and Europe. Hyfun Energy, which opened a production base in the development zone, has 61 patents in total and is currently building 12 new hydrogen refueling stations.
The three companies attended a launch ceremony of an FCV city cluster action initiative, which was a sideline event of the 6th International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle Congress that was held from June 8 to 10 in Shanghai. The initiative aims to establish the largest and most competitive FCV industrial cluster.
Great efforts have been made in the zone to explore hydrogen energy application scenarios since a hydrogen economy pilot project was launched in Rugao by the United Nations Development Program in 2016. To date, a total of 16 hydrogen fuel cell buses and 57 freight cars have entered the market. The first mobile communications base station powered by hydrogen fuel cells in Rugao has also been put into operation.
