Local famers in Rugao Economic and Technological Development Zone in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province have recently been busy applying fertilizer and pesticides to their croplands as part of their efforts to have a good harvest this year.
Workers at Runjie family farm in the development zone have checked the plant protection equipment in order to spray fertilizer and pesticides so that crops will not be affected by disease, insects or weeds, which are threats frequently seen in the spring.
During the fallow period, workers have plowed the land to improve soil quality, said Qin Xinghua, owner of the family farm that covers a land of more than 1,000 mu (around 666,667 square meters).
The Rugao bureau of agriculture and rural affairs has also made great efforts to help with famers' work. It has conducted a series of market research and strengthened regulations to ensure adequate supplies of agricultural materials, such as seeds, fertilizer, pesticides, as well as plastic sheeting.
The bureau has also warned farmers of possible plant diseases and insect pests, provided them with technical guidance based on weather conditions and growth details of crops.
