Rugao Economic and Technological Development Zone is home to more than 60 high-end equipment manufacturing enterprises, such as Rugao High Voltage Electric Apparatus Co Ltd, Jiangsu Sieyuan Hertz Instrument Transformer Co Ltd, and Weg Jiangsu Electric Equipment Co Ltd.

The development zone has the largest metal surface treatment center in Jiangsu province. Focusing on intelligent power transmission and transformation equipment, electronic and electrical equipment, and intelligent equipment, the zone is also striving to develop the internet of things, with the aim of improving the technical level and basic supporting level of its equipment manufacturing industry.

Relying on the existing industrial base, the zone focuses on the distribution of high-voltage electrical equipment manufacturing and supporting industries, and encourages the development of high-voltage electrical appliances, electric power and complete equipment, to build a national production base for ultra-high voltage power transmission, transformation equipment and core parts.

In 2019, Rugao High Voltage Electric Apparatus Co Ltd was named an "intelligent workshop of Nantong", and Nantong Power Station Valve Co Ltd was awarded "Nantong industry-internet integration pilot demonstration enterprise".
