A reading activity titled "A schoolbag of smiles" recently kicked off at Wanxin village in Chengbei sub-district of Rugao, Nantong, local media outlets reported.

This activity, promoted by the sub-district's center for culture promotion and the women's federation of Rugao Economic and Technological Development Zone, is the first of a series of reading activities that will be held in many villages and communities during the winter holiday in Chengbei sub-district.

The children received new schoolbags and picture books that they had expressed wishes for prior to the activity. Volunteers told children several fairy tales and taught them how to make Chinese paper cuts for window decorations.
