Construction will soon begin on a lotus-themed park in Rugao, Nantong and is expected to be completed in July 2021, local media reported on Dec 14.
The park will be located in Pingyuanchi village and take advantage of the village's lotus ponds, farming culture, and beautiful natural scenery to build a comprehensive tourism complex.
The complex will include a water park, an amusement park, a lotus flower museum, and an experience center themed around local farming culture. It will cost a total of 518 million yuan ($75 million) to build.
Pingyuanchi village was included on the 2019 list of the most beautiful villages in China for recreational activities.
A variety of tourist attractions in the village, including lotus ponds, chrysanthemum flowers, mushrooms, aquaculture, and fruit picking areas currently cover a total area of about 300 hectares.
The village's beautiful scenery and distinct agricultural products attracted around 185,000 tourists last year, generating 16 million yuan in tourism revenue.
The first hot spring in Rugao was discovered in the village in September, and construction will soon begin on a hot spring hotel at the site.
