Charming Pingyuanchi on provincial traditional villages list
The charming village of Pingyuanchi recently made it onto the list of provincial villages in East China's Jiangsu province.
The Housing and Urban-Rural Development Department of Jiangsu province announced the third batch of 138 traditional villages in the region on Dec 4.
Three villages in Rugao, a county-level city administered by the city of Nantong in Jiangsu, were on the list, including Pingyuanchi village in Chengbei sub-district.
Pingyuanchi was once a traditional agricultural village. But now it has become a key rural tourism village in China, acknowledged by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
The lotus ponds in the village attract hordes of visitors every summer, making tourism a key livelihood for locals.
Traditional villages are important carriers of the traditional civilization in China and are also an important cultural fulcrum for rural revitalization.
The Measures of Jiangsu Province for the Protection of Traditional Villages went into effect on Dec 1, 2017, which promoted the protection of provincial-level traditional villages.
