Nantong boosts awareness of virus prevention

en.nantong.gov.cn| Updated: November 23, 2020 L M S

The Nantong center for disease control and prevention released a notice on Nov 21 to raise awareness of epidemic prevention and minimize the risk of the virus being imported from overseas, after several new cases of COVID-19 were reported and the virus was detected on imported frozen food packaging in several domestic cities.

The notice encouraged everyone to act responsibly, stay up-to-date on the latest information about the pandemic, and take standard precautions in order to safeguard their own health as well as that of others.

It required all people engaged in the frozen food industry (including production and processing, storage and transport, sales, and catering) to strictly abide by relevant rules and not purchase, hoard, transport, or sell imported frozen food from unknown sources or without official certification.

It also required them to wear masks, gloves, and protective clothing when touching imported frozen food and receive a nucleic acid test if necessary.

The notice advises that individuals buy imported frozen food at shopping malls, supermarkets, or agricultural markets, and keep the proof of purchase. They are also advised to wear masks and gloves when buying, cleaning and cooking the food.

Those who experience fever, cough, diarrhea or fatigue after touching or eating imported frozen food must visit the nearest fever clinic as soon as possible, wear a medical mask, and avoid taking public transportation while on the way to the clinic.

Residents are also encouraged to report violations of epidemic prevention rules to local authorities.
