Galvanizing technical expert Xu Xiufei, from the Rugao Economic and Technological Development Zone – in Rugao city in East China's Jiangsu province – was recently honored with the Outstanding Contribution Award of the China Galvanizing Industry, according to zone officials.

They said he received the award at the 13th China Hot Dip Galvanizing Conference held in Qingdao city, in East China's Shandong province.

Xu's career began in Rugao, where he used to work as a technician in the Rugao power plant. In 1997, he was hired by South Korea's POSCO, a leading international steel company. Then he became involved in the coating plate industry, which greatly changed his life.

The Rugao resident subsequently put all his heart and soul into researching galvanizing technology.

He combined his experience from working abroad with the latest research results from Chinese experts to devise a full range of high corrosion resistance zinc, aluminum, magnesium coating production processes.

That technology is now widely used in 5G base stations, high-speed railway stations, underground pipe galleries, solar energy supports and other new infrastructure in China.
