Characteristics of Rugao Economic and Technological Development Zone
1. An industrial cluster forms
At present, there are many automobile main engine factories in the zone. The zone was initially established as the only industrial cluster in the domestic new-energy automobile industry that integrated the production of large and medium-sized buses, passenger vehicles and special vehicles, and developed hybrid, pure electric and fuel cell power systems in parallel.
In addition, there are many auto parts enterprises in the park, whose main products cover electronic systems, hydrogen fuel power supply, tires and bearings.
2. Distinct development characteristics
The zone combines traditional internal combustion engine power with petrol-electric hybrid, pure electric, and the ultimate hydrogen fuel power system. By the end of 2017, there were 28 new energy and new energy automobile enterprises in the zone.
The proportion of industrial taxable sales in the zone is increasing year by year. The taxable sales growth rate of the new energy and new energy automobile industry is 77.77 percent, which is higher than the overall level of the zone.
3. Hydrogen industry develops quickly
Rugao has formed a relatively complete hydrogen energy industry chain from membrane electrode production, electric reactor assembly, system integration to vehicle matching. Related enterprises all have independent intellectual property, the main product technologies of which have reached leading level.
In 2017, Rugao's hydrogen industry realized taxable sales of 1.45 billion yuan ($207.26 million).
4. Domestic and global presence keeps increasing
Based on the development foundation of the hydrogen energy industry in the zone, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched the only China Hydrogen Energy Economy Demonstration Project in the zone in August 2016.
In May 2017, the working meeting of the National Fuel Cell Standardization Committee was held in the park, and Bing Energy joined the fuel cell standardization committee, which set the precedent for Rugao fuel cell enterprises to participate in the formulation of national standards.
And in November 2017, the second International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle Congress was held in the park. Nearly 1,000 guests from more than 20 countries and regions attended the meeting, and Rugao became the permanent site for the congress.
