The Gangzha Economic Development Zone in Chongchuan district, Nantong, Jiangsu province achieved rapid economic progress in the first half of this year.

An important driver of Chongchuan's economic development, the Gangzha Economic Development Zone achieved a 10.5 percent year-on-year increase in taxable sales of scale-sized industries in the first six months of this year.

Two enterprises in the zone have been listed in the 4th batch of national "little giant" enterprises. The first enterprise development center in Nantong was also established in the zone to streamline processes for the enterprises during the period.

Buoyed by the rapid development of the zone, Chongchuan saw economic gains in the first six months of the year as well.

Compared with the same period last year, the gross output of industries above designated size in the district increased by 10.1 percent. The taxable sales of the service industry and the total foreign trade value of the district also increased 5.7 percent and 4.4 percent respectively.

Nine of the district's major economic indicators, including GDP, public revenue and total retail sales of consumer goods, have been ranked the highest in Nantong.

Chongchuan will continue to introduce important projects to advance industrial development in the second half of the year.

One 5-billion-yuan ($724.81 million) enterprise and at least three 1-billion-yuan ones will be introduced to Chongchuan. The district will also strive to have industries above designated scale generate annual taxable sales of 10 billion yuan.

More than 1000 mu (66.7 hectares) of land will be utilized to boost the construction of the industrial park.

Chongchuan is also planning to complete the digital transformation of 80 enterprises by the end of September. To date, 28 related projects have been implemented in the zone, said Shi Huirong, deputy director of Gangzha Economic Development Zone.
