When night falls, a variety of snacks and grocery items come into people's view at the night-time bazaar located on the Beidayunhe Road in the Chongchuan Economic Development Zone (CCEDZ), Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province.
This is a glimpse of the zone's night-time economy, coming as part of the efforts by local authorities to tap into consumption potential and ensure a stable economic growth in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The local authorities have implemented a series of measures to develop the night-time economy, including providing guidelines for vendors and making regulations. They have also organized a Party member team to promote relevant policies and improve the business environment.
CCEDZ is stepping up efforts to launch a number of night-time events to enrich the residents' life, such as art performances, sightseeing, leisure activities, sports and fitness and exhibitions, according to authorities.
The zone is planning to establish 11 night-time markets this year, with two pilot markets running presently, said a local official.
