Digitalization, innovation boost Hai'an's poultry and egg industry
Hai'an, a city in Nantong, Jiangsu province, has made significant strides in integrating digitalization and intelligent technology into its poultry and egg industry, contributing to its rapid growth.
The city currently boasts 37 leading agricultural industrial enterprises in the poultry and egg sector, including 12 poultry farming companies, three poultry processing plants, 21 egg processing facilities, and 46 animal feed manufacturers.
One prominent company, Kangde Egg Industry Co, is a provincial-level key player in agricultural industrialization. It specializes in egg production, feed manufacturing, and deep processing of egg products.
The company has introduced advanced European production and processing equipment to move from producing liquid eggs, egg powder, and boiled eggs to extracting high-bioactive substances like lysozyme and egg yolk immunoglobulin from eggs.
Nantong Tiancheng Modern Agricultural Technology Co Ltd is at the forefront of exploring digitalized farming technology. The company has introduced Internet of Things and data-driven technology, resulting in a scientific and intelligent poultry farming model.
Li Weimin, the company's general manager, said, "With our modern chicken coops, one coop can house up to 120,000 hens, managed by just one caretaker and a smartphone. Daily egg production can reach 6.6 metric tons."
Last year, Hai'an's poultry and egg industry achieved a total output value of 10.2 billion yuan ($1.39 billion).
Zang Zhong, director of the Hai'an Agricultural and Rural Affairs Bureau, emphasized that in the future, Hai'an will continue to enhance the digitalization of poultry farming to elevate its smart production levels and increase the recognition of Hai'an's poultry and egg industry.
