The commercial building economy, which is an important part of today's modern service industry, has become a main driver for boosting economic and industrial development in Chongchuan district, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, in recent years.

In the first quarter of this year, the taxable turnover of buildings built for commercial purposes was 37 billion yuan ($5.2 billion), an increase of 50 percent year-on-year.

One such building in Chongchuan is Shangjingzhigu, which aims at attracting enterprises that operate in the industries of digital culture, information technology and software research and development.

Shangjingzhigu has attracted the settlement of many high-quality enterprises.

Among them is MediTrust Health, which has set up its national call center in the building.

The center was backed by 30 million yuan in investment and is expected to receive at least 30 million yuan in taxable turnover this year.

The occupancy rate of the building climbed up from 60 percent at the end of last year to the current 80 percent.

According to official statistics, the district is now home to 175 commercial buildings, including 33 with a star-rating, each with a floor area exceeding 3,000 square meters.

In 2022, the taxable turnover of these buildings was over 155 billion yuan and the tax generated by them equaled 5.6 billion yuan.
