Authorities of Haimen district in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province have in recent years been bolstering its vegetable industry as part of efforts to promote rural vitalization and common prosperity.

The district is currently home to 24 provincial-level green vegetable bases which cover 21,200 mu (1,413.33 hectares) and generate an output of 20,000 yuan ($2,909.62) per mu.

Jiang Guoxing, a representative of a modern agricultural park in the district's Zhengyu town, said that they have set up intelligent greenhouses equipped with facilities for water and fertilizer integration, soilless culture, heating and ventilation.

He added that they have also established a cold chain logistics center for processing vegetables, which makes it possible to provide vegetables during the off seasons.

The park employs more than 100 workers who live in the vicinity during the peak season. One such worker, Zhang Baozhen, said that she can earn 2,000 yuan per month.

Shen Hua, an agricultural technology expert, said that she and her team have selected more than 100 vegetable species that are suitable for growing in the district, and more than 60 of them have since been grown in other parts of the district.

Authorities have also been making efforts to build a complete vegetable industrial chain that covers seedlings growing, bases building, storage and fresh-keeping, cold chain logistics, and refined processing.
