Located in Rudong, Nantong, East China’s Jiangsu province, Qiangmin village recently made the list of the 12th group of national demonstration villages with competitive industries.

The national recognition is an affirmation of the village’s efforts in developing its vegetable industry in recent years.

Since the introduction and promotion of advanced technology in vegetable cultivation in 2009, the village’s vegetable industry has become a driving force behind development.

At present, 65 percent of the 2,325 households in the village are involved in vegetable cultivation.

The per capita disposable income of villagers is currently more than 36,000 yuan ($5,168) and the collective assets of the village are worth over 21 million yuan.

To boost the development of the industry, the village has also been focusing on attracting new projects.

One of the introduced projects is Hydrofarm Technology Limited, which has invested more than 20 million yuan in the vegetable cultivation industry in the village.

An industrial chain that involves the cultivation, sale, and processing of vegetables has also been formed in the village.

The village is currently home to eight family farms, three agricultural cooperatives, and five agricultural enterprises.
