Rudong in East China's Jiangsu province recently launched a campaign to aid the sales of local farm produce via livestreams.

On Aug 18, the livestream activity debuted at the Hongqiao Family Farm in Juegang subdistrict to promote grapes.

"I received many orders from the livestreaming room immediately after starting the stream," said Du Changquan, who heads the Hongqiao Family Farm.

Du added that while people were watching the livestream, his workers were busy picking and packing grapes and that buyers would receive their orders the next day.

The Hongqiao Family Farm grows more than 100 mu (6.67 hectares) of Sunshine Rose grapes, a grape species with a crispy and juicy taste. Free from pesticides, the grapes at the family farm are certified as an A-level China Green Product.

The four-hour livestream was viewed by nearly 12,000 netizens and secured orders worth nearly 20,000 yuan ($2,915.64). After the stream ended, orders continued to pour in.

In recent years, Rudong authorities have taken measures to promote local products and expand sales channels.

Authorities have also created a regional public brand for Rudong-produced farm products – Ruyi Dongfang – and plan to work with local farmers and farmer cooperatives to promote the brand.

In addition, Party secretaries of the villages in Rudong will be encouraged to shoot short videos to advertise their local produce.
