Rural vitalization gains ground in Tongzhou

Tongzhou district in Nantong, East China’s Jiangsu province, has witnessed robust development in its rural areas in the past decade, authorities said at a press conference on Aug 19.

In 2021, the per capita disposable income of rural residents in Tongzhou was 30,900 yuan ($4,500), an increase of 219.14 percent over 2012.

Meanwhile, the collective operating revenue of the district’s villages amounted to 1.35 million yuan, up 212.6 percent when compared with a decade ago.

The district has advanced the high-quality development of six industries in the past 10 years, including grain and oil, gardening, fishery, animal husbandry, rural tourism, and the export processing of agricultural products.

The level of agricultural mechanization in Tongzhou reached 93.1 percent in 2021, increasing by nine percentage points over the course of 10 years. The output value of the farming, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery industries in the district reached 11.759 billion yuan, an increase of 156.26 percent over 2012.

Tongzhou has been also improving its rural environment and has been listed as a national demonstration zone of the construction of ecological civilization.
