The Eryao community in Shizong town of Tongzhou district in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, has in recent years been making efforts to develop its rural areas by integrating its characteristic industries such as agriculture and tourism.

For example, two gardens where people can pick Baiyu loquat have been established in the community to draw tourists. Many homestays and activities such as vegetable picking have also emerged in the community, drawing tourists seeking vacations in the countryside.

Meanwhile, the Yuanhong Wanjia Smart Agricultural Base, the first intelligent plant factory supported by electricity in Nantong, has set up science popularization and experience zones for tourists to learn more about agricultural technology.

The vegetable processing base of Lyuxin Professional Cooperative of Fruit and Vegetable has also been playing a key role in driving rural development by providing jobs to more than 150 farmers. The base teaches farmers modern agriculture methods that help boost their crop output.
