The Dongdajie historic neighborhood in Rugao was the only entry from Nantong in the list of provincial nighttime culture and tourism consumption clusters published by the Jiangsu provincial department of culture and tourism on Aug 16.

The Dongdajie historic neighborhood is located in the northeastern corner of Rugao and covers an area of about 10 hectares.

The neighborhood was built in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279) and became a major commercial block in Rugao during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), when the water transportation system was well developed.

It is currently home to many well-preserved ancient buildings that are hundreds of years old.
