Pigeon pair pandas Xing Hui and Xing Fan celebrated their fifth birthday at the Nantong Forest Safari Park in East China's Jiangsu province on Aug 12.

Their keepers used carrots, watermelons, tomato juice and apples to make an iced birthday cake for the pandas.

Born on Aug 12, 2016, the pandas had traveled from their hometown in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan, to Nantong on Jan 22, 2019. They are Nantong's first resident pandas and will live there until 2024.

According to experts, wild giant pandas have a lifespan of between 18 and 20 years, while those reared in captivity can live for 30 years and more. Pandas reach sexual maturity when they are five years old.
