Luqiao village in Chengbei subdistrict, Rugao, came alive on the evening of Aug 26 as the third "Village Basketball Association (VBA)" tournament tipped off under the bright floodlights of the local court. Hundreds of villagers and basketball fans crowded around the open-air venue, creating a lively and festive atmosphere.

This year's tournament has drawn 12 teams made up of employees from local enterprises and residents from villages and communities across Chengbei. A total of 168 amateur players will compete over the next 11 days, showcasing their skills and passion for the sport.

The opening ceremony featured a dazzling light show, while the sidelines buzzed with activity as villagers set up stalls offering drinks and snacks, giving spectators the chance to enjoy both basketball and a bustling night fair. The grassroots "VBA" concept continues to evolve, providing not only sporting competitions but also a platform for community interaction and cultural exchange.

The excitement will continue in the coming weeks, with Pingyuanchi village set to host a mini marathon.

Chengbei subdistrict, also known as Rugao Economic and Technological Development Zone, also plans to roll out more cultural, tourism, and sports events, ensuring that both residents and enterprise employees can take part. These initiatives are bringing fresh vitality to rural communities.
