The first community vaccination site in the city of Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province – located in Beihaodongcun community in Hepingqiao sub-district, Chongchuan district, Nantong – opened to the public on July 26.

The site includes a registration area where volunteers take the temperature of those to get vaccinated and help them fill out their information on Yumiaotong – an app providing vaccination services. It also includes a vaccination area with two consoles, observation area with books to read during the 30-minute observation session, and an area for emergency aid and treatment.

A total of 88 residents got vaccinated at the site from July 26-27, despite the storms brought on by Typhoon In-Fa.

The site operates from 8 am to 11 am and 3pm to 6 pm every day.

Beihaodongcun and Haobei communities, in close proximity to each other, both have a permanent resident population of over 10,000 people, over 25 percent of whom are elderly.

"We found that many elderly residents are eager to get vaccinated during our field visits," said Wu Jian, a person in charge of related matters in Hepingqiao sub-district.

"However, it is inconvenient for them to get vaccinated at shopping malls or community health centers," Wu added.

The community vaccination site was originally set up for the elderly, but many nearby merchants and employees also got vaccinated at the site in the first two days of its opening.
