Zoucai village in Rugao, Nantong has become a good example of rural revitalization under the guidance of the village's Party committee since 2016, local media outlets reported.

Before 2016, Zoucai was a pure agricultural village. Local residents hardly had incomes other than those from farming.

In recent years, the village transferred nearly 200 hectares of farm land, of which about 53 hectares are rice paddy fields where crabs are raised at the same time.

According to Zou Ping, the village's Party secretary, Zoucai village's annual operating revenue has exceeded 1 million yuan ($153,700).

"Since the farmland was transferred, rent has become a part of villagers' income. Meanwhile, they can work in companies instead of farming, which has generated more income," Zou said.

As its economic development has increased, the village has worked to enrich people's lives by organizing various activities, such as inviting elderly Party members to tell revolutionary stories and holding square dancing competitions.

In addition, a rural library was built next to the square where people usually dance.

"My wife dances at the square almost every evening as long as the weather allows," said a villager Zhang Guangling.

"I come here with her and read books in the library," added Zhang.

Since its establishment, the library has not only attracted adults, but also primary school students. To relieve pressure on parents, the village has also hired tutors to give guidance on students' homework.
