A big effort is being made to conduct garbage sorting and classification by Chuanjiang town – located in the Tongzhou district of Nantong city, in East China's Jiangsu province – to improve the environment and contribute to its green and sustainable development.

Home to a flourishing home textiles industry, Chuanjiang is facing the challenge of dealing with waste mixtures which include domestic and other refuse produced by its factories.

The issue was addressed recently in Chuannan village, a Taobao Village with a cluster of e-tailers – retailers who use the internet to sell goods and services to their customers, rather than actual stores. A team, including Party representatives, conducted a survey there and listened to the villagers' opinions during a local meeting.

The subsequent discussion led to a set of proposals being drafted for handling the issue.

It was suggested that sessions should be organized to train village group leaders and grid-based community leaders on how to implement rubbish classification. Moreover, plans are for related tips to be shared with members of the public through various channels.

To ensure a smooth process, village regulations will reportedly be streamlined, while refuse classification demonstration sites will be established. The most efficient ones will be identified and used as examples for the others to emulate.

The suggestions will soon be rolled out, according to a local official.
