Timely emergency rescue and relief efforts helped Shuangqiao villagers in Chuanjiang town, Tongzhou district, Nantong after a violent storm battered the city on the evening of April 30, thanks to the work of local officials who are members of the Communist Party of China.

The unusual extreme weather swept the Yangtze River Delta, with Nantong being one of the hardest-hit cities. Many homes in the village were severely damaged, billboards were toppled, and trees were blown down, obstructing traffic.

Qi Yaowei, secretary of the Party branch of Shuangqiao village, rushed to the scene and dispatched village cadres to inspect the entire village. At a road blocked by fallen guardrails, Qi conducted traffic guidance and evacuated passing vehicles before other personnel arrived. The road was cleared in less than 30 minutes.

Qi also immediately asked all grid chiefs (the country uses a community grid management system, a nationwide social governance system) to return from their holiday break and assigned them to take pictures of the damage so that the locals could receive payment from the natural disaster insurance the government purchased for them.

Chuanjiang town has been stressing the importance of Party member education and launched a campaign entitled "dedicating myself to practical things for the masses", giving full play to the advantages of grid management system.
