Zouhair Ait Bouchaib, a 27-year-old man from Morocco, has been living in Haimen district, Nantong for two years.
He is currently teaching literature and history at the Haimen Zhongnan Dongzhou International School.
"It's a very beautiful place. Very clean, very quiet," said Bouchaib, who said he felt at home in Haimen and plans to settle in the district with his Chinese wife.
He said that local people are very nice and the hospitality of his students and colleagues has left a deep impression on him and helped him overcome many difficulties when he first arrived in the city.
Bouchaib is one of 12 foreign teachers at the school and the fourth to marry a Chinese spouse, according to Geng Qingxi, a senior executive officer at the school.
"We have been working to make their lives in Haimen more comfortable and convenient, " Geng said.
Foreign teachers are not only included in the local social security system and share the same benefits as locals, but they also enjoy preferential policies in medical treatment and accommodation.
Well-equipped 50-square-meter apartments are offered to single foreign teachers, while those who are married, like Bouchaib, are eligible for a larger home of 60 to 80 square meters with two bedrooms.
The school also holds regular activities to promote interactions between foreign and Chinese teachers to help them learn more about each other.
