The air quality of Haimen district in Nantong was ranked second among districts, county and county-level cities in Nantong during the Spring Festival holiday, with the average PM2.5 density being 34.2 micrograms per cubic meter.

Local environmental protection, public security and urban management departments worked together to crack down on illegal firecrackers and firework displays, reduce emission of industrial plants and increase the cleaning frequency of roads and public places.

Haimen has also made great efforts to improve its environment, including building green areas and upgrading waste transfer stations, in recent years.

The district's forest coverage rate has improved from fifth to the third place among districts, county and county-level cities in Nantong in 2020. The rate also exceeded the city's average for the first time, according to the district's natural resources and planning bureau.

A total of 100 waste transfer stations in the rural area have been renovated, and 69,824 new waste bins replaced 7,747 open-air waste pools. The rate of bio-safety waste disposal has also reached 100 percent in its rural areas.
