A ground-breaking ceremony for 25 key industrial projects was held in Haimen district, Nantong on Feb 27, local media outlets reported.

The projects, focusing on intelligent manufacturing, bio-medicine, new-generation information technology and circular economy, will receive a total of 39.39 billion yuan ($6.08 billion) in investment.

A 25-hectare new materials project sponsored by Conch Group will cost 15 billion yuan to build and will include a cement grinding station, material distribution and counting center, and three 5-tonnage wharfs.

Officials said the project is significant for the district's circular economic industrial chain and is also a key part of the core area of Tongzhou Bay demonstration area.

Industrial projects have been a major driver of Haimen's high-quality development over the past several years. In 2020, the district saw construction start on 30 projects, each worth 1 billion yuan or over, and had four projects rated at the provincial level and 25 at the municipal level.

The district aims to sign more than 60 projects worth 1 billion yuan or over in 2021, including four worth 10 billion yuan or over and five worth 5 billion yuan. 

Construction on three projects worth more than 10 billion yuan, three worth more than 5 billion yuan and 30 worth more than 1 billion yuan is expected to start this year.

"The district government will focus on high-end and leading industries, as well as sci-tech innovation-driven projects," said Shen Xudong, chief of Haimen, at the commencement ceremony.

"All departments should work to offer targeted services for each project and ensure construction goes smoothly," Shen added.
