The first 4-megawatt wind turbine of the Rudong H5# offshore wind plant was connected to the grid for power generation on Dec 19, taking the first wind power project developed by Jiangsu Communications Holding Co Ltd to the operational stage.

The Rudong H5# offshore wind plant project currently has the heaviest booster station, the longest submarine cable route and the largest reactive overvoltage compensation capacity among the offshore wind plants that have come into operation in China.

It is 48 kilometers away from the shore. Invested with 5.5 billion yuan ($842 million), the project has a planned total installed capacity of 300 MWs and 75 planned wind turbines each with a single capacity of 4MW. It is also equipped with a 220kV offshore booster station and an onshore centralized control center.

After completion, the annual on-grid power will be approximately 940 million kWh. Compared with coal-fired power plants of the same scale, it can save approximately 290,000 tons of standard coal, reduce carbon dioxide by approximately 720,000 tons and sulfur dioxide by approximately 313 tons and generate profits and taxes exceeding 100 million yuan.
